Inspiration Fifth Wall: A dancing iPad app M. 16 Nov 2012
It’s been a while since Fifth Wall was launched, an interactive iPad app designed by Abbott Miller of Pentagram, for 2wice Arts Foundation in New York.
Created in collaboration with choreographer Jonah Bokaer and 2wice publisher Patsy Tarr, the app takes advantage of the unique spatial and physical parameters of the iPad and transforms it into a new performance space.
To create the performance, Miller and his team built a box with the same proportions as the iPad. Bokaer was filmed performing within the box, engaging with the edges, jumping from the corners, and sliding down the sides. As a result, the app enables the users to interact with the iPad, by focusing on a single dance, or move, sort, and re-frame the performance, which responds to the movement of the user, flipping when the screen is turned, or changing when the surface is swiped.
